Hawk

Dear Hawk Nation,

We are very busy these days.  Here are some updates from HSD.

The latest from the Governor's Office regarding COVID-19:

Updates to Capacity Limits, Continued Adherence to Requirements

Highlights below:

  • For indoor gatherings, the percentage of capacity will increase to 50 percent starting March 26 and 75 percent starting May 24.
    • All Health and Safety Requirements still required, including mask-wearing, 3-6 foot distancing.
  • For outdoor gatherings, the percentage of capacity will increase to 75 percent starting March 26 and 100 percent starting May 24.
    • All Health and Safety Requirements still required, including mask-wearing, 3-6 foot distancing.
  • Effective immediately, travel between Maine and Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island is now permissible without the need for testing or quarantine.

HSD to host educator vaccination clinic:  HSD will be hosting a clinic for school employees on Saturday, March 13th (and subsequent second shots in April).  Kudos to our nurses and PCHC for making these arrangements and the central office for scheduling everyone.  This will go a long way towards safety and getting back to normal.  We anticipate over 100 staff members to receive a vaccination on this day.

HSD to offer more in-person instruction:   The School Committee approved the Reopening Schools Cmt proposal to acquire more instructional days for students.  On Monday and Tuesday, each school will host parent meetings and share the information regarding each school's plan.

We are excited to gain four additional in-person days/month for K-3,  8 virtual synchronized days/month for grade 4,  8 virtual synchronized days/month for grades 5-8, and 4 additional days/month for HHS.

This was a huge challenge given the state-mandated restrictions and we believe it begins to get us one step closer to in-person every day.  Thanks for your patience as we move into spring.

Please go to each school's Facebook and or Web page and check your email for updates.  Each school will be hosting a Parent Advisory Council and or PTA meeting early next week to review the plan and answer any parent questions.  While our plan is not yet everything we all would like it to be, it is one step closer.

A special thank you to those who have put so much time and effort to bring this possible project to the community.
