Good Afternoon Duran School Families, It has been an exciting week of learning at the Duran School. Here is an update of our week: First grade students are fully immersed in our phonics program (Letterland). They are learning the characters and the character's sounds. I had the opportunity to sit in Mrs. Chichetto's class as they categorized words into word families. Students did an awesome job "fishing" for words and putting them in the right tackle box. One unit that we study in 4th grade focuses on weather disasters. Teachers capitalized on this weekend's predicted forecast to teach students about tropical storms and hurricanes. Did you know that hurricane's spin in one direction in the northern hemisphere and in another direction in the southern hemisphere? I didn't! We do have a quick reminder for families that drop off their children in the morning. Please remember to pull through the loop so staff and families entering the parking lot can go through. The parking lot is a one-way, so we ask that you follow the traffic pattern. We also have a "staff of the week" spot that we honor our teachers with--we ask that you do not park there. Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation! We can't wait to see what next week brings! The following is a list of upcoming events: September 19: Picture Day for students in grades preK-1st September 20: Picture Day for students in grades 2nd - 4th September 21: Title I Night at 6:00 September 22: Homecoming Day--wear blue and gold to support Hermon football!

Dear Ski Program Parents, We have fantastic news for you! Due to the in-equitability of the Ski Program paperwork being distributed, I was able to communicate with our Curriculum Coordinator, Mrs. Perry and she worked with the superintendent to transition funds in the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Grant. With the superintendent’s approval, Mrs. Perry will write an amendment for the grant. Due to this approval, we are able to provide fee waivers to ALL students, for ONE of the 2 sessions. This is ONLY for those students that have turned in their paperwork as of today. We will not accept any more “fees waived” paperwork. If you would like to sign your child up for BOTH sessions with payment for one, all payments must be made by Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Checks should be made out to “Hermon Mountain”, send payment to the school in an envelope labeled “Ski Payment”. If payment is not received by this date then your child will not be able to participate in the fee-based session. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Please see the new email sent to each of you, to see the session your child has been granted through the grant. Ashlea Bourdon
